Ekachai Golf & Country Club is a countryside golf course with 27 holes located along Ekachai Road and passed the Chao Phraya River from Bangkok. It takes about 1 hour by car via route 35 from the city center of Bangkok.
Ekachai is one of the oldest golf courses in western Bangkok. Mounds and water hazards frame every hole, both of which make up the main challenges. Hole routing weaves back and forth, bisecting and paralleling the many small streams, lakes, and ponds. Accurate shot-making and club selection benefit better than sheer distance. Otherwise, be prepared with spare balls and plan on losing more than expected in the water.
The 27 holes play on flat terrain. There is a good range of layouts, including short par-4's, par-5 doglegs, and par-3's over water. Each hole provides a challenge in its right, making for a good variety and appeals to all. Be careful to follow the course map as it's easy to play holes out of order, or worse, hit from one fairway and lay to another hole's green.
Local Thais, together with visiting Japanese and Korean golfers mainly play at Ekachai. Signs throughout the golf course and in the clubhouse in foreign languages reflect this. Golf carts are available, though most choose to walk in favor of riding as it's a convenient walk for golfers who prefer leisure over the speed of play. The low green fees with average golf course maintenance are the two points that bring most golfers.
Being featured in both Japanese and Korean golf guides also explain the abundance of golfers from these countries, especially from December to March.
The new clubhouse is impressive at first glance. However, facilities including lockers, pro-shop, on-course kiosks, and restaurants need improvement. Overall Ekachai Golf & Country Club is a friendly local course and popular alternative to the more famous Bangkok golf courses.
